Very hairy moment

On my drive home tonight I approached a
small roundabout(do they have tese in the US), no visible traffic and I
was going straight over, by the way the roads were wet. Dropped down a
gear floored the throttle, flick left, right and left and al of a sudden
the rear of the car decides that it wants to get ahead of the front, no
warning just snap break away. Instinctively
tried to correct using the steering wheel and she pendulums the other way,
one further snake to the right and I manage to regain control. As luck
would have it there was nothing coming in the opposite direction and I
managed to avoid the curb. No damage done, although I did get some
interesting looks from a nearby pedestrian.
Moral of the story: The 993 is supposed
to be the most forgiving of the air cooled 911's and yet tonight I went
beyond both my and it's limits. I now know that this is a car that requires,
no demands, RESPECT. In the dry she's brilliant, but in the wet, be afraid,
be very afraid.
I guess this summer I will have to start
doing some DE's. |
